Platform pragmatism & How to navigate using social platforms we know are harmful

Part 2 of our mini series on Digital Sovereignty

Live #2: Digital Sovereignty + Surviving Platforms That Don’t Share Our Values

In this conversation with Natalie Brite, we continued our exploration of digital sovereignty by asking a hard question: how do we survive—and even thrive—on platforms whose values don’t align with ours?

We unpacked the internalised shame that comes with the performative side of social media, and how sovereignty means choosing what works for us rather than defaulting to what the platform demands. We talked about building networks of allies, checking in with how we feel when we post, and giving ourselves permission to withdraw when needed.

As always, these sessions are shaped by you. If you have comments or questions, we’d love to hear them. Together, we’re co-creating this series.
