Hello you,
If you’ve never had business coaching before, it might sound a bit scary or intimidating, like you are venturing into unfamiliar territory.
When people come to see me for a FREE 90 minute Coaching Call, they may have already worked with a business coach before. Sometimes they had a good experience and are just looking for a fresh perspective, but sometimes things didn’t go so well (or spectacularly badly in some cases!)
If the latter is the case, I always thank them for being brave enough to try again, because getting ‘back on the horse’ after a bad experience requires a special kind of bravery.
It also requires a huge amount of trust so I know I need to validate that negative experience, to help them learn to trust me.
You see a big fear that they have is that there is a ‘right’ way to do business, and what they are doing is ‘wrong’. So they may feel like they have been judged, or that I might judge them.
It's important to remember that business coaching should be a supportive and ultimately empowering experience so they often breathe a huge sigh of relief when I tell them that:
☺️ I am never going to tell them what they ‘should’ be doing and
☺️ I am never going to tell them what ‘not’ to do – we are just going to monitor things for a while so we have enough data to make informed decisions going forward
I am also never going to suggest that they do things that feel uncomfortable or morally suspect.
And by that I don’t mean I am not going to encourage them to get out of their comfort zone; getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things is important for personal and business growth and development. But we will do that in a way that is manageable for them.
I also remind them that coaching is about celebrating progress not just about addressing problems.
My promise to you
So if you are unsure about stepping into the unknown and aren’t sure about what to expect, I want to put your mind at rest.
I am never going to:
❌ Judge you
❌ Encourage you to engage in unethical working practices such as procuring goods from suppliers engaging in modern slavery, sweat shops or similar
❌ Ask you to create cynical payment plans where people with less money end up paying more
❌ Encourage business practices that harm people or planet
❌ Help you create a business that has an adverse effect on your health and family
❌ Make you do anything that doesn’t sit well with who you are as a person
❌ Break our confidentiality agreement
Instead I will:
✅ Do a LOT of listening. I want to know all about you and your business. What makes you tick, gets you excited, what motivates you, who are the people in your life that you are doing this for
✅ Always meet you where you are at and have respect for the journey that you have been on
✅ Help you create a business you want to run – not one that has you running for the hills!
✅ Gently encourage you out of your comfort zone
✅ Help you create a profitable business that gives you a thriving livelihood
Whether we go on to work together or not, I want you to enjoy having time to offload to someone you can trust, as well as going away with some things you can work on right away. I’d go so far as to say, we’re actually going to have fun! So, what are you waiting for? 😊
